Numerical Temperature Analysis of the Double-Side Photonic Thermal Sensor System with Janus Radiation Cooler

In this study, we design a double-side photonic thermal sensor system to simulate continuous internal heating in an enclosed box using the Janus radiation cooler as an upper cover. The Janus radiative cooler is composed of a selective emitter in the upper part and a broadband emitter in the bottom part. A selective emitter is based on a polymer and metal thin film, which utilizes the dispersion relation of spoof surface plasmon polaritons to achieve a nearly ideal selective emitting surface. The finite element method is used to simulate the local temperature distributions inside the structures under steady-state operation. The temperatures changes are measured at the top and the bottom of the Janus radiative cooler, and the middle and the bottom of the thermal sensor system. The structure top radiates the absorbed heat into outer space, while the structure bottom absorbs thermal energy in the mid-to-far infrared spectrum. The excellent cooling performance of the double-side photon thermal sensor system is demonstrated by using two- dimensional thermal simulations. The proposed device is effective in developing advanced passive thermal systems that can operate simultaneously for the surface and vacancy.
