Shielding Materials and Enclosures: Basic Shielding Theory.

Tackling interference problems may be done at three different levels of a system: — by acting on the source level and reducing the emission level and spectrum. — by acting on the victim level, by reducing the susceptibility (or increasing the immunity) by design. — by acting on the transmission path. This latter action is depending on the coupling path. For conductive problems, the use of filtering techniques must be considered. For radiated problems, the use of shielding techniques is required. Because shielding is directly related to radiation, electromagnetic field theory is concerned with. Therefor, some basic shielding theory is reviewed in this introductory paper.
