Transmission Cross Section of Apertures Determined by Measurements and FDTD Simulations

Knowledge of the transmission cross section of apertures, σa, constitutes an important factor in design and analysis of electrically large shielded structures. This paper presents a comparison between measured and calculated (FDTD) results of σa for several apertures. The FDTD simulations are based on a routine that calculates the Poynting vector on a surface behind the aperture. The measurements are based on the use of a overmoded cavity backing the aperture. The results show good agreement, also with an exact solution.
