Real-Time FPGA Implementation of a 90° Phase Shifter Based on Hilbert Transform

The aim of this paper is to design an efficient architecture for FPGA real-time implementation of hilbert transform (HT) using an approach based on the half-band Finite impulse response (FIR) filter. After the creation of HT's IP-core using Vivado-HLS it has been experimentally tested with Nexys video FPGA board using a real-signals. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed system, both hardware and software implementations have been validated using Vivado and Matlab tools, respectivelly. A cosine signal generated by Analog Discovery 2 and acquired ElectroCardioGram (ECG) signal using AD8232 module have been used as inputs allowing to shift the phase of each signal by an angle of $90^{\circ}$ in real-time, thus forming the imaginary part of the corresponding analytical signals. The obtained results are very promising as they guarantee a very short computing time with a minimal power and resources consumption.
