MIGUS: A Flexible, Fully Automatic EMP Simulator

This contribution describes the principal construction, some special features and the function of the Multiple Impulse Generator of the University of Stuttgart (MIGUS). With this system it is possible to generate single impulses as well as multiple impulses. Multiple impulses simulate electromagnetic phenomena like the disconnector operation in gasinsulated substations in energy transmission systems or parts of the effects of atomic weapons with multiple bursts (NEMP). The flexible construction offers the possibility of generating impulses with different front and tail times, according to the requirements of the different standards (e.g. EXO- and ENDO-NEMP). The system is transportable and can be used for On-Site tests.
