A New General Solution to the Field to Wire Coupling and Crosstalk Problems

In this paper the problems of field to wire coupling and crosstalk are treated from the antenna point of view rather than as a transmission line [1,2]. This has several advantages, The usual restriction of TEH modes is removed, therefore allowing the treatment of a much larger class of problems. It completely eliminates the need for the computation of the inductances, capacitances and distributed sources per unit length, It provides a multiport model that is independent of the terminations avoiding, having to solve the problem over again every time a lead or source is changed. Because this model is established under firm theoretical and physical grounds, its parameters can be determined by computation, by measurements or a combination of both. It provides information about the direction and polarization of maximum susceptibility for the field to wire problem and the most tightly coupled ports for the crosstalk problem. Last but not least, it gives a deep physical insight in the problem allowing important conclusions to be arrived at without any computation.
