Grounding, Bonding and Inter-Unit Wiring

The results of a study of inter-unit wiring have been presented in three reports to the sponsor. The first describes a design-philosophy for grounding, which is outlined in the first section of the paper. The main points are that there should be no attempt to ‘transfer’ a common reference potential between units, that the topological approach to shielding design should he used and that only balanced interface circuits can meet the requirements. In the later sections of the paper, a selection of supporting arguments, from the reports, are presented.
