Systematic Literature Review of Cybersecurity and User Experience

This research study presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) exploring the convergence of Cybersecurity and User Experience (UX) fields over the five-year period from 2018 to 2022. Employing a methodology based on recommendations from PRISMA [1], Nightingale [2], and Silva and Neiva [3], we conducted extensive data collection from the Web of Science Core Collection, resulting in 1860 records. These records underwent two rounds of screening, including manual reviews of titles, abstracts, and author keywords, followed by a manual review of the full articles. 1013 publications were selected for further analysis, including word frequency and thematic analysis using the NVivo software tool [4], [5]. The analysis also examined publication types, temporal and geographical distributions, and the top conferences/journals based on frequency. The results indicated consistent scholarly activity with a slight dip in 2020, likely due to pandemic-related disruptions. North America and Europe showed higher research activity, led by the US. While Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Data and Systems Security domains emerged as key themes within the discourse on Cybersecurity and UX convergence, we acknowledge that these results are meant to lay a foundation for understanding Cybersecurity and UX research, while encouraging further exploration.
