Lightning Induced Voltage on Distribution Lines with Shield Wires

The work presents a program for lightning induced voltage calculations based on the theory proposed by S. Rusck. The methodology consists of applying an analytical expression originaly deduced for an infinite homegeneous line plus the necessary correction terms that take into account real line characteristics. Correction terms are modeled as sources of a transient calculation program that are injected in specific points of the line and the induced voltage can be obtained. The program determines induced voltages on two-conductor aerial lines consisting of grounded neutral conductors, shield wires, surge protectors, etc. Comparisons between this and other methodologies are presented. A group of digital simulation results is also presented to ilustrate how the program can be used to evaluate lightning performance of distribution lines.
