Method to Define a Safety Zone for Mobile Earth Station! with Regard to Exposure to Electromagnetic Field

This paper describes a study conducted to determine whereas safety precautions with regard to exposure to electromagnetic fields were needed for the earth stations in use in the satellite communication centres. The results are that for the fixed earth stations, their maximum level in the main beam is below the occupational exposure limit; but, for mobile earth stations, this limit can be exceeded close to the antenna and it's necessary to define a safety zone both in terms of occupational and general public exposure. A method combining theoretical calculations and measurements is proposed to define this safety zone.
