Comparative Performance Evaluation of Conventional Fly-back Converter and Interleaved Fly-back Converter for Solar PV System

Presently, wide deployment of solar PV is being observed across the world due to advanced technology and lower per unit energy cost. Solar PV produces power only for a short time (during the day) and is dependent on weather conditions. Hence, it is necessary to harness maximum power from solar PV at a given moment. DC-DC converter plays a key role in a two-stage conversion of PV system and generally used to boost the voltage up. Therefore, it is crucial to choose the right converter for optimised operation and maximum power extraction from solar PV. Interleaved DC-DC converter is comparatively a new technology and application of this converter in PV system is sparse. This present work focuses on the comparative performance analysis of conventional flyback converter and three interleaved flyback DC-DC converters applied in PV system. Based on parameters like voltage gain, converter loss, converter efficiency, and transient duration, a comparison of both converters are presented. It has been observed that Interleaved flyback converters are more effective, have lower converter loss, and have better voltage gains than conventional flyback converters.
