Cascaded H Bridge Inverter Fed Motor Drive for Electric Vehicle Applications

The use of multilevel inverters has increased since the previous decade, Because they can produce waveforms with a greater harmonic spectrum and reliable output. Since multilevel inverters can lower harmonic levels and offer a high output Reduction of voltage stress on the switches, Size of the filter will also minimized which decreases complexity of the system. They have become increasingly popular in power applications in recent years. These new inverters can be used in many high voltage and high power applications. This study examines the performance of a nine- and eleven-level cascaded inverter to drive a three-phase AC induction motor and a five- and seven-level CHBMLI using multi carrier Sinusoidal Pulse width modulation technique for the CHBMLI, a Level shifted pulse width modulation (LSPWM) approach was used. Particular attention is given to modulation and total harmonic distortion (THD), which are necessary or preferred for multi-level converters. For both intellectual and scientific considerations, sine-triangle carrier modulation is selected as the most promising technique to investigate. Analysis of the many performance parameters including load torque, motor speed, and efficiency. An extensive survey is conducted, Matlab / Simulink is built into the entire system and simulation results are developed. Cascaded H Bridge inverter are more suitable because of its reliability, less usage of clamping diodes and easy of control of circuitry and it also reduces switching and conduction losses of the system. It is possible to attain the desired output level by connecting multiple Multilevel Inverter modules in series configuration. Both industrial and domestic appliances frequently use these multilevel inverters, and there is an increasing need for a steady supply of electricity. This study aims to illustrate the driving results of 9-level and 11-level fed induction motors for electric vehicle applications. CHBMLI fed motor drive is better suitable for Electric Vehicle applications.
