Using Python to Create Control Systems for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles

Developing software for control systems of underwater robotic complexes involves both adapting proven technical solutions and creating new ones. Various development tools can be employed in this process, given the wide range of options available today. One such tool is the Python programming language, which offers several advantages such as ease of learning, flexibility, and versatility, making it a popular choice among both experienced software developers and undergraduate students. This article examines the experience of using Python to build control systems for unmanned underwater vehicles (both autonomous and remotely operated) from scratch, using the Geek vehicle as a case study. It explores various aspects of Python's application, including sensor data processing, autonomous control, interaction with surface operators, and integration with other technologies necessary for successful underwater missions. The article also discusses the results of using the Geek underwater robot in performing various operations during international and regional competitions by a student team.
