Distributed Rapid Fault Self-Healing Scheme for Active Distribution Networks

The high penetration of renewable energy sources (RES) into distribution networks poses multifaceted challenges to traditional protection and control mechanisms. To achieve rapid fault self-healing in active distribution networks, a distributed fault self-healing scheme based on smart terminal units (STUs) is proposed. This scheme employs a waveform similarity comparison algorithm as the principle for fault segment localization, thereby rendering it adept at addressing active distribution networks containing various types of RES and varying levels of RES penetration. The proposed scheme enables rapid fault segment localization, isolation, and power restoration of non-faulty segments, while meticulously coordinating with the coordination with distributed generation (DG) anti-islanding protection and low-voltage ride-through capabilities. Each STU boasts the capability of automatic network topology recognition, allowing it to adapt its control strategies in response to real-time changes in the network topology.
