Design and Implementation of IoT Based Automated Railway Gate Crossing System

An improvising system for Indian Railways, this method solves the problems of manually operated level crossing gates. Level crossings are the site of more than 43.6% of railroad accidents in our nation, and little has been done to address this problem. The suggested method uses an infrared sensor to detect train arrival and departure, which allows it to autonomously manage the level crossing gate’s opening and closing. Furthermore, warning indications that improve safety at the crossings include signal lights and a buzzer. This system’s primary goals are to reduce needless delays and avoid accidents at railroad level crossings. The study suggests a sensor-based method that uses two sensors to identify train movements and activate the gate automatically. We have implemented this automated system using an ESP32 micro-controller to take actions and precautions during abnormal conditions, a one-way message system (Normal and mail) is designed and programmed between ESP32 and the gatekeeper’s phone using the Wi-fi feature of the controller.
