Image Processing Detection System For Vehicle Overspeed

Excessive speed has been recognized as a primary factor contributing to traffic accidents. The collisions stemming from high speeds lead to hazardous crashes, severe injuries, and fatalities. Hence there is a need to design a cost-effective system that detects the over speed and alerts the authority. In today’s scenario, manual speed monitoring by traffic police is required which is not that effective. In harsh climatic conditions it is quite difficult for traffic police to manually monitor speed of vehicles through the speed detection gun. This project prototype will detect the speed of a vehicle and over speeding conditions according to road conditions and capture the image of vehicle and its number plate if over speeding is detected and obtain vehicle number by processing the image. After image processing vehicle transport authority is alerted by providing the information about the vehicle like speed, location, and vehicle number The current system to detect over speed of vehicles is quite expensive and requires manual attention, our system on the other hand requires minimal attention (maintenance) after setting up on highways, thus minimizing the problem of the traffic department and making control over the rash driving on highways.
