Technical and Regulatory Issues for the Coexistence of Radio Altimeters and 5G Networks in Latin America: Recommendations and Best Practices

This article addresses the coexistence problem between radio altimeter systems and 5G networks in the Latin American region. It provides an overview of international regulations on the matter. It develops recommendations and best practices to mitigate potential interference issues with radio altimeter systems operating in the frequency range of 4200 MHz to 4400 MHz at aerodromes, which must be protected through special operation zones. The authors hope these guidelines will help engineers and regulatory bodies develop appropriate measures to operate both technologies safely on the continent.
