Evaluating the Operational Safety of a Passenger Car Automatic Emergency Braking System

The article deals with the state of the issue and outlines the advantages of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The structure of vehicle safety, stages and methods of development of safety mechanisms in the leading industry standards on operational and functional safety are described. The general principles of forming methods of describing the electronic control system of the automobile on the example of the automatic emergency braking system of the passenger car are proposed. The factors of operating conditions within the framework of operational design domain (ODD), which should be taken into account in the formation of typical scenarios of car movement, are determined. It is proposed to carry out safety assessment when investigating a limited number of the most dangerous scenarios selected from the total number by means of hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA) methods, identification and evaluation of initiating events.
