Phospholipid Bilayer Nanostructures Functionalized by Amide Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Using the contemporary structural methods Electromagnetic Echo Effect (EMEE) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) we have studied structural and thermodynamical properties of model phospholipid bilayer nanocomposite-admixture 1-Stearoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (SOPC) / carbon nanotubes amide functionalized by [CON(CH3)2] group. The structural analysis developed allows the role of the SOPC bilayer structure distortion induced by amide functionalized nanotubes admixture to be identified. On the base of DSC analysis, a novel effect, laminar gel Lβ - liquid crystal Lα phase transition, driven by van’t Hoff enthalpy, pointing to an intermediate, partially cooperative phase transition and new intermediate state was discovered. We built a microscopical model of the fundamental laminar gel into liquid crystals phase transition including both bulk and surface forces, acting and balancing the bilayer structure conformation. Besides this and to explain the tenability of the bilayer structure conformation, including transmembrane process, by electro-optical (EO) excitation, we have modulated the evolution and the growth of the bilayer nanostructure for its forthcoming characterization.
