Asset Management System for Distribution Cable

Power cables are one of the most important equipment for stable power supply. Maintenance has become a crucial factor due to the significant damage caused by the failure of distribution cables that supply power to various loads. Due to their complex line configuration, power distribution cables have numerous points that need to be monitored in comparison to power transmission cables. Despite the active conduct of monitoring and safety diagnosis services around major power distribution lines in each industry, cable accidents have not been efficiently prevented. From this perspective, this paper is about the distribution cable asset management system (referred to later as the i-Check system) recently developed by LS Cable and System. The i-Check system comprises an i-Check cable containing an ID, an IoT sensor for monitoring the status of the cable, and a platform for checking various information of the cable on the Web/App, enabling efficient management of the power distribution cable. The cable ID (Data Matrix printing) and status monitoring allow real-time verification of information related to various cables (node name, length, installation, voltage, current, live line classification, and maintenance history) on the i-Check platform. In addition, optimal decision-making is possible for replacing and efficiently maintaining aging cables.
