Recent Advances on Eddy Current Losses in High- Speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines

The rapid electrification of the transportation industry has significantly increased the utilization of motors, highlighting high speed and high power density as prominent trends. However, this trend has leads to significant eddy current losses (ECLs) in the rotor, decreasing motor efficiency and risk of overheating and demagnetization. Consequently, mitigating these losses has become a critical challenge in advancing high- speed motor technology. Nevertheless, recent literature reviews reveal a lack of comprehensive systematic studies on ECLs in high-speed motors. This paper aims to thoroughly examine the current state of research in this area, presenting a cohesive perspective to aid researchers in quickly grasping foundational knowledge and the latest advancements.
