Computer-Aided Teaching Design of Lead-Lag Compensator in Automatic Control Systems

Correcting the control system's frequency response to meet requirements such as stability, steady-state and dynamic performance is a crucial part in the course Automatic Control Principle. To help students better understand and harness the design and implementation of lead-lag compensators, the related theoretical and computer- aided teaching design procedure are presented in this article. Firstly, the characteristics and advantages of lead-lag compensator compared with the other cascaded compensators are discussed. Then, the seven design steps of lead-lag compensator are presented, and finally a case study on how to designing the lead-lag compensator via MATLAB is provided. Simulation results are presented to verify the computer-aided design process for lead-lag compensator.
