Enhancement of Indonesian Language Learning Motivation Using Trivia Game

Good proficiency in Indonesian is crucial because it can influence the student's success in other subjects. There is a problem in studying Indonesian language, which is the boredom and motivation loss to study due to the usage of textbooks that mostly consist of extensive texts. On the other hand. gamification can enhance the motivation to learn Indonesian language. This study's purpose is to develop a gamification application in the form of a trivia game with three quiz modes to learn about standard words, with the hope to enhance the student's learning motivation. The trivia game was developed using agile methodology with the help of Ren' Py game engine. The developed game has two sections, which are dictionary and quiz. Hypothesis testing was conducted using the IMMS questionnaire which is based on the ARCS motivational model for the pre-test and post-test with in-between time for one week to play the game. Statistical analysis in form of Paired Sample T-test was performed to conclude that the implementation of gamification in this study could enhance students' motivation to learn Indonesian language.
