Decoupled Hybrid Analog/Digital Design for Multiuser Uplink Massive MIMO-OFDM Systems

This paper presents a new hybrid analog/digital (A/D) receiver design for multiuser uplink massive multiple-input multiple-output with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. The optimization of the analog and digital processing stages is decoupled, and the analog stage first leverages the maximin principle to balance the performance across all subcarriers. This approach ameliorates the outcome of the subsequent digital processing stage, leading to an improved overall error rate performance similar to fully digital processing. Consequently, the proposed method achieves a favorable trade-off between hardware complexity, power consumption, and signal detection performance in the considered scenario.
