Smart IoMT Applications in Senior Healthcare: Balancing Functionality, Security, and Privacy Challenges

Current technological trends are shifting towards the use of interconnected, ubiquitous systems that enable ambient intelligence, exemplified by the Internet of Things (IoT). In the healthcare industry, this is referred to as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). This emerging technology creates a paradigm where everyday objects are equipped with identification, sensing, networking, and processing capabilities, allowing systems to communicate seamlessly over the internet. The integration of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has significantly enhanced the usability and functionality of IoMT systems. However, it has also introduced new challenges, particularly concerning privacy, safety, and security. We explore the state-of-the-art IoMT applications in the senior healthcare sector. Additionally, we review the policies that address the complex balance between medical functionality, information security, and privacy, propose a systematic structure, and provide possible solutions and policy revisions.
