Reducing Carbon Footprint in Rural Communities: A Case Study of Omupo Solar Rice Mill

Rural communities often face challenges related to carbon emissions and access to essential resources such as water and energy. This paper presents a detailed technical analysis of the IEEE Smart Village initiative undertaken to establish the Omupo Solar-Powered Rice Mill in Kwara State, Nigeria. This initiative aimed at reducing carbon footprint through the implementation of a solar-powered rice milling system and a borehole water system. The study examines the technical aspects, environmental impact, socio-economic benefits, challenges encountered, and future considerations of this transformative project.
