Wind Speed Estimation based on Power Law Extrapolation Technique

When considering deploying a wind farm the evaluation of the wind potential is of great significance, as it allows the selection of the optimum site and wind turbine. This implies the accurate knowledge of the wind speed profiles, both temporal and with height. Although on-site measurement is the most reliable technique for evaluating the wind speed profiles, estimation techniques are also developed. Consequently, this study aims to investigate the efficiency of the Power Law extrapolation technique for estimating the wind speed profiles at various heights, and the obtained profiles of the wind speed will be validated by using real data, measured with a LIDAR ground remote sensor.
