Electromagnetic Interference in Ultrasound Imaging Systems - A case study

This study addresses the challenge of artifacts caused by conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) in ultrasound imaging devices and explores effective ways to eliminate them. We propose the use of an EMI filter connected to the electrical network of the ultrasound system. Our experimental results demonstrate that using the EMI filter can significantly reduce image artifacts, thereby improving image quality. However, in certain scenarios, the existing EMI filter was found to be insufficient for complete artifact elimination. Consequently, this study identifies the limitations of commercial EMI filters and explores the development of specialized filters designed specifically for artifact elimination in ultrasound imaging. Our findings underscore the importance of advanced EMI filtering solutions in enhancing ultrasound image quality, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
