A Study on a Linear Actuator for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System

The present work proposes a new method for the assisted take-off of small aircraft (wing span under one meter) through the aeromodelling of a model that closely mimics the electromagnetic aircraft launch system - EMALS. In this configuration, an unconventional linear actuator is responsible for the propulsion of the chosen model aircraft. The study involves determining aerodynamic parameters, followed by modeling through finite element analysis (FEA), and establishing the launcher’s control sequences. The conclusions aim to highlight the results obtained and confirm the feasibility of scaling the device to a larger size.
