Total Accommodation Capability Curve for Distribution Networks with Energy Storage

To enhance the accommodation capability of the distribution network for distributed generation (DG), this paper proposes a total accommodation capability (TAC) curve for smart distribution networks with energy storage. Firstly, a mathematical model and solution algorithm for the TAC curve of smart distribution networks with energy storage are proposed. Secondly, the influence of the integration location and capacity of energy storage on the TAC curve is investigated. It is found that only the energy storage downstream of bottleneck branches affects the TAC curve. Then, measures such as increasing the capacity of energy storage downstream of bottleneck branches and expanding the capacity of the bottleneck branches are proposed to enhance the accommodation capability. Furthermore, the application of the TAC curve in guiding DG and energy storage integration as well as conductor replacement is demonstrated. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by an IEEE 33-node case. The proposed TAC curve effectively depicts the complete accommodation capability of smart distribution networks with energy storage and holds practical value for distribution network planning.
