A Basic Study on Modelling and Range-Extension Control for Dual IM-PMSM Electric Vehicles

This paper proposes a model-based control system to extend the range of dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric vehicles (EVs) using different electric motors (EMs). By analyzing EM, wheel, and chassis dynamics, a cost function involving driving force distribution ratio and motor current is introduced to minimize input power. An optimal driving force distribution strategy is developed to minimize energy consumption, suitable for real-time execution on conventional EV electronic control units. Computer simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of this strategy in both constant speed and acceleration/deceleration modes.
