An Overview of BTMS for LIB: Opportunities & Challenges

Electric vehicles (EVs) are crucial in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, relying on lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their high energy capacity and durability. However, temperature fluctuations can impact LIB performance, affecting capacity, safety, and longevity. This study explores the evolving landscape of thermal management for lithium-ion batteries in response to the growing demand for EVs. It reviews computational and experimental studies from 2013 to 2023, utilizing data from the Web of Science database, and focuses on various cooling systems used in LIBs to address temperature fluctuations. Notably, research efforts significantly increased in 2023, with a balanced focus on cooling technologies. This paper provides a comprehensive review of current methods and advancements in LIB cooling systems, emphasizing the importance of continued research and development to improve battery performance and safety in electric vehicles.
