Exploring Total Ionizing Dose Radiation Effects Across Generations of NVIDIA Jetson Devices: A Comparative Analysis

With the rise of autonomous systems, high performance commercial embedded systems have emerged as powerful and energy-efficient solutions, holding significant promise for small satellites and spacecraft, as well as for payload processing. However, the typical commercial devices are not inherently engineered for space operations, necessitating thorough evaluation. NVIDIA Jetson embedded multicore and GPU devices are among these promising systems. In this study, we assess the impact of radiation ageing, specifically through a Total Ionizing Dose (TID) campaign, on three models of the NVIDIA Jetson family: Jetson Orin NX, Jetson Orin Nano and Jetson Xavier NX. Through comprehensive evaluation, we aim to uncover insights into the resilience and suitability of these devices for space applications.
