Performance Analysis of Two-Wheeler EV Batteries in Irregular Terrains

Two-wheeler Electric Vehicles are the preferred choice in many developing countries for daily commutes and cost-effective transportation purposes. The present-day EVs mainly make use of Li-ion batteries as the energy source. As the battery is the most expensive component in an EV, the optimized usage of the EV battery is crucial to prevent premature battery degradation. The battery degradation phenomenon not only depends on the battery chemistry but also on the user behaviour and driving patterns. This paper analyses the battery performance parameters in irregular terrains by using a battery model for a light electric vehicle (LEV). The reference drive cycle patterns corresponding to the irregular terrains and two standard drive cycles are used to evaluate the battery performance. A simscape model of the LEV battery is developed and its degradation behaviour is analysed in irregular terrains. Further, a quantitative comparison of SOC degradation and thermal behaviour has been conducted using the developed models and irregular drive cycle patterns.
