GaN Switch Based Novel Quadratic-Double-Boost Floating-Input High Gain DC-DC Converter

This paper proposes a novel double-boost quadratic high-gain DC-DC converter suitable for Renewable Energy Applications High gain DC-DC converters are popular in applications like DC micro-grid, floating-solar, UPS, electric vehicles, etc. The proposed topology has a floating-input, floating-output structure with four switches, with reduced active/passive switch voltage ratings. The quadratic-boost input stage and coupled-inductor based voltage-multiplier cell provide high voltage gain, while the passive diode-capacitor clamp circuit reduces voltage stress of switches. The working principle of the converter is analyzed in detail. The modes of operation of the converter, its various steady-state waveforms and expressions, design of the proposed converter, and comparative analysis with similar topologies have been presented in this paper. The concept is initially validated through simulation studies using MATLAB and Simulink. Finally, a 500W 100kHz prototype of the topology is designed to verify the effectiveness of the concept.
