Analysis of the Effect of Geometric Tolerances on Ferrite Core Losses Using a Physical Core Loss Model

Core losses in real magnetic devices can differ from the loss values predicted during a design process based on the nominal core geometry given in the datasheet. This article explores the influence of geometric tolerances on core losses using the CFM² physical core loss model for ferrites. This model enables to determine the best- and worst-case core losses for a given operating point as functions of the core geometric tolerances.
