Hybrid Disinfection Robot: A Prototype

This paper illustrates the development of a semi-autonomous disinfection robot featuring specialized UV-C light and Spray disinfection procedures. The robot utilizes UV-C light for disinfection in the absence of individuals and switches to spray disinfection in their presence. By integrating both systems, the limitations of each method are effectively addressed. This approach minimizes the need for harmful chemicals and residual sprays, thereby reducing ventilation requirements. To safeguard the well-being of animals and humans, the robot integrates motion sensors and cameras to identify living organ-isms, adapting the disinfection process accordingly. Its versatility offers a practical solution for disinfecting various surfaces, particularly in healthcare settings where cost-effectiveness and reduced dependence on cleaning staff are critical. Experimental results demonstrate a significant reduction in bacterial levels after a ten-minute UV-C light disinfection. Furthermore, the paper details the development of a mobile application for controlling the system, encompassing the semi-autonomous capabilities, as well as the mechanical and electrical structures. This study offers a robust, scientifically grounded approach for efficient disinfection, addressing heightened cleanliness needs. For spraying, it covers a 12.5-inch area, and UV-C light that requires at least 10,600 $\mu \mathrm{W} . \text{sec} / \text{cm}^2$ with 90% microorganism destruction in 5 seconds.
