Energy Efficiency Implementation in Designing Exclusive Boarding House Using Smart Home Technology

The electricity shortage in Indonesia significantly increases the operational costs of businesses, such as lodging houses. This study is conducted at the HENDAR Exclusive Putra Boarding House, where smart home technology will be implemented to enhance energy efficiency and mitigate the environmental consequences of high electricity expenses in Malang City resulting from wasteful usage by its occupants. This method employs qualitative methods such as observations, interviews, and documentation. During the research, the participants implemented various environmental techniques and technology interventions, such as utilizing PIR receivers and enhancing lighting design, to regulate excessive electricity consumption. PIR receivers enable smart technologies to reduce energy consumption by eliminating wasteful usage. Based on measurements and comparisons to established lighting standards, it was determined that the adaptive lighting system would meet the boarding house's requirements while also conserving energy. The implementation of smart home technology in the facility decreased operational expenses caused by inefficiency and supported the principles of environmental sustain ability. The study verified that modifications in behavior, aided by technological advancements, efficiently regulate energy usage in commercial lodgings. It has enhanced the possibilities for expanding operations in similar environments across Indonesia, contributing to broader energy efficiency and sustain ability objectives.
