A Dual Receiver Inherent Hybrid CC-CV Topology With Half Active Rectifier Control Scheme for Semi-Dynamic WRIPT Electric Vehicle Charging System

This research article presents a dual-receiver, inherent hybrid Constant Current-Constant Voltage (CC-CV) resonant compensator topology with a Half-Active Rectifier (HAR) control scheme for a semi-dynamic Wireless Resonant Inductive Power Transfer (WRIPT) system designed for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging. The proposed dual-receiver CC-CV integrated HAR enhances the performance of the semi-dynamic WRIPT system by eliminating the need for a DC-DC converter stage and its associated complex control strategies. It also improves coupling effectiveness along a multi-transmitter (multi-Tx) charging e-lane, optimizing power transfer during EV movement over the e-lane. The dual-receiver’s inherent CC-CV charging mechanism enables efficient resonant inductive power transfer using SS compensation in CC mode and S-LCC compensation in CV mode. This is achieved through a closed-loop phase shift control scheme that regulates the HAR without requiring communication-based feedback. The HAR controls the output DC power by adjusting the secondary circulating time interval, maintaining a unity power factor when the transmitter coil supplies a constant current. To evaluate the system’s performance, both a simulation and a hardware prototype were developed for a 3.3 kW power capacity. Ansys Maxwell was used to analyze the coupling performance of the multi-Tx and dual-receiver setup in the WRIPT charging e-lane. The inherent CC-CV topology was modeled and analyzed using NI-Multisim for sensitivity analysis, while Matlab/Simulink simulations were conducted to validate the HAR control scheme using phase angle difference as the control variable.
