Mechanically Driven Pump Versus Electrically Driven Pump for Fuel Systems of Jet Engines

Jet engines for aircraft use are mandatorily assisted by fuel installations (fuel control units - FCUs); their main equipments are the pumps, whose drive can be done mechanically or electrically, depending on the engine's designer and manufacturer choice. The paper comparatively analyzes the behavior of jet engines as controlled objects in both pump drive cases. Starting from the mathematical models of pumps, of jet- engines and of their controllers, studies were carried out regarding the time response of the embedded systems, variation graphs concerning engine's main output parameter(s) were drawn and, finally, some important conclusions were obtained.
