Design and Performance Assessment of a Band Pass Filter with a Tunable Active Inductor

This study introduces the design and performance evaluation of a bandpass filter (BPF) incorporating a tunable active inductor, functioning within the 1 to 3 GHz frequency range. By altering the biasing voltage of a PMOS current mirror, the proposed filter's passband frequency and quality factor can be changed. The active filter has a. 256 mW power consumption and is powered by a 1.8 V DC source, utilizing gpdk 180 nm technology. The design has undergone process corner analysis to assess its compatibility in various environments. The integration of a tunable active inductor allows for the center frequency to be adjusted using two different tuning methods. Biasing voltage-based tuning allows for a center frequency range of 1 GHz to 3 GHz, covering the L band. Additionally, capacitive tuning offers a frequency range from 700 MHz to 2.5 GHz, providing further flexibility in the design. Finally, a power consumption comparison between the suggested bandpass filter (BPF) and alternative designs is made. The findings reveal that the proposed filter is more efficient in terms of power usage compared to other designs, making it a highly efficient solution for applications within the specified frequency range.
