Investigation of High Switching Frequency Dual Active Bridge Converter for Electric Vehicle Application

Transport is a fundamental requirement of modern life; internal combustion engine vehicles are highly polluting in the environmental emission of CO2 and fuel cost costs more. Therefore, Electric vehicle (EVs) reduces environmental pollution and reduce energy cost. EVs are becoming popular in the transportation sector, which creates the demand for charging stations. Converters play a vital role in charging EVs in a quicker time. This paper proposed a dual active bridge (DAB) converter for bidirectional flow of charge control for modern EVs. In this case, introduced high-switching frequency devices like SiC, and GaN are included in this topology. On the other hand, single-phase shift modulation control techniques were adopted to improve the performance of efficiency and switching loss reduction. This model is implemented for EVs charging a 5-kW power rating. This model is developed and validated through MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results are verified with the rated power rating of converters. The performance results of various factors are analyzed in the proposed topology. The experimental setup for the proposed model was also verified with simulation results.
