Innovative Approaches in Child-Friendly User Interfaces: A Systematic Literature Review on Technologies, Motoric Skill and Evaluation

This systematic literature review examines the design and evaluation methods of child-specific user interfaces (UIs), focusing on their technological aspects, integration with motor skills, purposes of use, and evaluation methodologies. Major findings from 56 Scopus papers indicate a significant impact of UI design on children's learning effectiveness, especially through motion-based and sensory engagement. The study also highlights a novelty of innovative approaches like gamified learning and interactive storytelling, which significantly enhance user engagement and educational outcomes. Furthermore, our analysis reveals the critical role of UI in fostering social and cognitive development among children, supporting a range of learning styles and special needs. The conclusions emphasize the need for ongoing innovation in UI design tailored for children to optimize educational and developmental outcomes in digital learning environments.
