Microgrid Power Flow Analysis with Variable Renewable Energy

The transition from fossil fuel-based power plants to renewable energy-based power plants is expected to occur in the coming decades. Various studies are being carried out to anticipate the unavailability of electrical energy during the energy transition period until the net zero emission target is achieved in 2060. This article analyses the power flow of a microgrid system connected to renewable energy variables. Three types of loads are varied: flat, campus, and household. 1 MW rooftop PV is a renewable energy variable integrated into a microgrid system with a 4 MW mini hydro generator. From the simulation results, it can be seen that the output power of the mini hydro generator changes according to the availability of solar power. The maximum capacity of rooftop PV can be added based on the minimum output power of the mini hydro power connected to the microgrid. Excess power from one feeder can be transferred to another feeder, thereby increasing energy independence if there is a power shortage during the energy transition.
