Universal Software Defined Radio: Advancing Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations for Enhanced Interoperability

Modern electromagnetic spectrum operations necessitate an advanced communication system that can seamlessly interact with a wide array of radio sets and frequencies. In joint operations, various agencies utilize multiple radio sets for command and control, making inter-communication with both own and other radio sets crucial. This challenge can be addressed by developing a Universal Software Defined Radio based system (U-SDR) that bridges the spectrum gap between different radio sets. This paper presents the development of a Universal Software Defined Radio based system (U-SDR) with the purpose of enhancing electromagnetic spectrum operations, with an emphasis on inter-communicating with radio sets of Very High Frequency and Ultra High Frequency spectrum bands. The proposed solution is designed to facilitate seamless interoperability between VHF and UHF radio sets.
