Rule-based Local Distribution Grid Design Tool

This paper introduces an expert tool to assist in designing power distribution grids within the context of diverse regulatory frameworks and standards across different regions worldwide. Recognizing the absence of a universal grid design system, the proposed solution leverages a rule-based tool that empowers experts and non-experts to craft grid designs aligned with regional standards. The tool can also help to start and support a dialogue between experts and non-experts for example in the context of citizen energy communities. The tool employs a questionnaire to capture desired grid specifications, subsequently utilizing a rule engine informed by knowledge tables derived from existing standards and expert insights to generate tailored design suggestions. The proposed tool creates a detailed data flow diagram that illustrates the connection between questionnaire inputs and generated outcomes, facilitating decision-making. To validate its functionality, the tool is employed to generate suggestions for 20 diverse cases, showcasing its adaptability to varied scenarios. Additionally, the tool is applied to design a grid for the SYSLAB living lab, further demonstrating its practical utility and effectiveness in real-world contexts.
