Prototyping a 5G-Enabled IoT Gateway Using Off-the-Shelf Components and Open Source Software

In this paper we study commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and open-source software suitable for implementing an IoT gateway that connects to a 5G network. We also present the design of a prototype gateway built using a Raspberry Pi 4, a bladeRF software defined radio (SDR) platform, and a 5G modem. The gateway runs an application server which provides a web interface for an IoT dashboard and allows information exchange with various IoT devices over a 5G network.
