The Inhibitory Behavior of Eco-Friendly Pigment Based on Montmorillonite Nanoreservoirs

Eco-friendly anticorrosive pigments based on zinc loaded montmorillonite nanoreservoirs for priming paint coatings were obtained. Montmorillonite from bentonite clay was obtained by the coarse-dispersed phase sedimentation method. Zinc loaded montmorillonite was modified by ion exchange method. The surface morphology and chemical composition of initial and zinc loaded montmorillonites were determined by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersion spectroscopy analyzes. It was established that a lamellar structure and the presence of $\mathrm{Na}^{+}$and $\mathrm{Ca}^{2+}$ cations, with a predominant content of $\mathrm{Ca}^{2+}$ cations of the initial montmorillonite. It was shown that the lamellar structure of the zinc loaded montmorillonite is preserved and the lamellae have different shapes and sizes. It was established that the corrosion resistance of the aluminium alloy increases in the acid rain environment with obtained pigment. The surface morphology of the aluminium alloy after immersion in inhibited environments and the protective mechanism of modified montmorillonite in acid rain were studied by scanning electron microscopy. It was established that the protection degree in an environment with zinc loaded montmorillonite for aluminium alloy is approximately 90%. Consequently, modified zinc loaded montmorillonites are promising components for the production of the eco-friendly anticorrosive pigments for organic primer coatings.
