Feasibility Study of Wave and Solar Energy Integration for Sustainable Energy Production in Offshore Oil and Gas Platform in the Java Sea

Offshore oil and gas platforms have substantial energy needs, commonly fulfilled using gas turbine generators which produce carbon emissions. To reduce the carbon footprint of oil and gas companies, renewable energy sources, such as wave and solar power, are utilized. This paper analyzes the viability of using wave and solar energy sources in three sites in the North Java Sea. The research methodology includes assessing wave and solar energy potential from historical data, then calculating the solar energy yield using PVsyst and the wave energy yield using the sea scatter diagram. This research calculated the Annual Energy Production (AEP) and the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) of wave and solar energy converters at each location. Comparative analysis revealed that the West Madura Offshore (WMO) site is the best location for solar and energy source converters. The LCOE for wave and solar energy at WMO is Rp2,828/kWh and Rp307.9/kWh, respectively, with AEP values of 15.916 MWh and 205.709 MWh respectively. This renewable energy integration could also reduce carbon emissions by around 437.955 tons annually.
