Optimization Design of Multi-Beam Sounding Line Based on Geometry

As one of the important instruments in ocean exploration and survey, multi-beam sounder has been paid more and more attention by many countries. There are manpower and material resources have been invested in its development. This paper presents an optimization design of multi-beam sounding line based on geometric principle. Firstly, the sea area model is established considering the changes of seabed topography. Secondly, slope change is studied by geometric relation, and the coverage width of the survey ship in different directions and positions is calculated. Hence, the specific detection model is further studied, and then the optimal multi-beam sounding line scheme is designed by geometric principle. The total length of the shortest line is calculated to be 70 nautical miles.
